The Project “Nature and Culture for All 2”

A transfundal project ALCOTRA Italy - France

Thanks to the “Nature and Culture for All 2” project, funded by the European Union, which sees the collaboration of Italy and France, in upgrading and enhancing the landscape jewels of the Ligurian Coast (Riviera dei Fiori) and the French Riviera, the aim is to expand tourist-cultural enjoyment in a sustainable and inclusive way.

The project is a continuation of “Nature and Culture for All,” which, among its significant achievements, bequeathed additional ideas for enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the cross-border territory and “institutionalizing” collaboration among partners.

Actions

  • Structural interventions to improve attractiveness, cultural offerings and tourism services, in a safe and inclusive manner
  • Project communication
  • Joint or coordinated activities for the sustainable enjoyment of identity heritage, landscape, cultural and natural assets

The project involves strengthening the cross-border collaborative vision through the production of complementary and shared communication materials and the development of programs, itineraries, events, and activities involving partners and other similar cultural centers in the ALCOTRA territory.

Needs

  • Improve the quality of some cultural and sustainable tourism attractions, which already play an important role in the area, but have recent alterations caused by weather and health events
  • Improve conditions of safety and inclusiveness for visitors
  • Promote the seasonal adjustment of site attendance
  • Enhance communication between centers of attraction characterized by historic and quality green space
  • Enhance connecting routes between the above centers through communication activities and products

Objectives

  • Shared communication (shared web portal, videos, information boards; brochures)
  • Improved safety (reconstruction of pergolas, stone walls, paths, entrance arch, defenses from storm surges and ungulate intrusion, securing paths of monumental plants)
  • Enhancement of inclusiveness (elevator, dedicated path and electric vehicle for people with mobility difficulties; restoration of pathways)
  • Enhancement of attractiveness function (new museum spaces; new geo-referenced and informative catalog of collections; connection between train station and cultural venues; restoration of three artistic artifacts)
  • Sustainability enhancement (extraordinary plan of interventions for sustainability education; refurbishment of water tank for rainwater recovery)

Results

  • Increased tourists/visitors in the gardens and other cultural spaces
  • Increased satisfaction of tourists/visitors
  • New solutions shared among different actors in the cross-border territorial network
